To design a challenge activity course for a Further Education college. The course had to be versatile and robust as it was for the Public Service course whose students follow on to careers in the armed forces and public sector. The college wanted elements that were versatile so their use could be adapted in the future to keep the course ‘fresh’. Assault course elements were also requested that were going to form part of a larger course that could be established around the college grounds.
We designed a challenge course with surrounding linear assault course elements. The challenge course consisted of a multi element, multi route set up that enabled the users to traverse the course in many ways. A set route could be established for time trials or a start and finish determined with a time trial set up for the quickest traverse. Within the course there were also developmental tasks such as low all aboard, mine field spiders’ web for team development exercises. The assault course consisted of a scramble wall, monkey bars, crawler net and a steeple chase.
Successfully completed the challenge course and the assault course features to our high degree. The course was signed off by a type A ERCA (European Ropes Course Association) inspector and the instructors trained by an independent ERCA trainer.
“Vertigo installed a high quality low ropes product which will be an asset to the college for years to come. The installation team’s flexibility to site constraints was exemplary and the aftercare, snagging and training, was meticulous!”
