Low Ropes Courses

Low ropes offer the same enthralling recreational and developmental experience as their aerial siblings, without the need for belay devices. All courses and elements can be installed in the controlled indoors or the rugged outdoors. Whatever your requirements they come in four main sections: linear, challenge, individual and obstacle.

Linear:

These courses are ideal for developmental groups as the team can progress together along the course working together to reach the finish. They also work well in a recreational context as the course can be completed as a challenge. We have adapted our linear courses to make them wheelchair accessible enabling disabled participants to use the course independently. We adapted a linear course for The Calvert Trust.

Challenge:

Suited for both developmental and recreational use, the challenge course is set up in quadrants with an activity on each side of the ‘cell’. Extra quadrants can be added to create a larger complex, these can take on any plan from large grid forms to linear cells. See Northampton College.

Individual:

These elements are stand alone tasks that groups tackle together. They are excellent for developmental courses as each task can take from 20-40 minutes to complete depending on the level of difficulty you impose on the participants.

Obstacle:

These can be installed as a linear set of obstacles, a circuit or as satellite tasks around the edge of a challenge course. All the ‘classic’ assault course elements are available or new ones can be created to suit your requirements.

As there is no belay device the ground covering is extremely important for low ropes courses. There is a choice of materials however we do recommend laying pea gravel as it has better aesthetics, drainage and lifespan. We install a timber edging to keep the material on site.
